In today’s day and age with technology right in our pockets, having a website for your business is more important than ever. I mean, think about it…
You’re out adventuring in a new area and you get hungry, so you pull out your phone for a quick Google search: “food near me”. A couple of promising options pop up, but you’re getting hangry and you need to see a menu PRONTO, because you’ll be damned if you get all the way there just to find out their menu options are what nightmares are made of. An arugula salad?!? After THAT amount of walking?? Not today, Satan. NOT TODAY! 🙅♀️
So, with your hanger-level elevating (and fast!), you skip over all the options that don’t have a website or menu to view and map directions to the closest spot with a semi-promising looking menu. You get there, order what you want, gobble it up so fast the waiter almost lost a finger, and all is good in the world again. Ahhhhh! 😌
You’re happy, the restaurant is happy to serve you, and the other website-less restaurants in the area missed out on your football-team-sized appetite and corresponding bill.
Moral of the story: Whether people are searching for “food near me” or they heard about you from a friend and want to see what you’re all about, if you don’t have a website – you’re missing out on potential business!
If you’re wondering if YOUR business really needs a website, more often than not my answer will probably be yes. Not always, but more often than not!
So let’s go through a few different types of solopreneur businesses that could see some SERIOUS biz benefits from having a website!
Bloggers
Let’s start with an obvious one: bloggers.
With blogging as popular as it is these days, there are loadsss of different platforms out there that can serve as a blog or microblog – Blogger, Tumblr, Facebook & Instagram posts… just to name a few. But what these blogging options lack is the ability to do more than just post words and pictures.
Now, if you’re just blogging for the purpose of showing your Great Aunt Sally your trip to Italy last summer, well then you’re probably fine right where you are. But if you want to make blogging an actual business, as many do, you’re going to need a website.
Website features that would benefit bloggers:
- Blog posts, obvi
- Newsletter or freebie sign-up forms
- Separate section for your fave go-to products/clothing/accessories/etc
- Ability to easily connect and promote affiliate links using your favorite platforms such as ShareACart, RewardStyle, LIKEtoKNOW.it, Amazon, and hundreds more.
- Social media feed that automatically updates on your website every time you post your super cute #ootd, and more!

Photographers
I’ll say this til the day I die: Photographer websites are HANDS DOWN my absolute favorite type of websites to build! When I get to gush over my client’s pictures for 3 weeks straight as we bring their vision to life, just call me one happy camper! *allll the heart-eye emojis!*
While Instagram has become an incredibly popular way for photographers to find clients, at the end of the day it’s important to note that none of us actually own our Instagram accounts – good ol’ Mark Zucks does, and he can change the rules at any time.
Don’t get me wrong, Instagram is amazing for sharing all the breathstopping moments you’ve oh-so-skillfully captured, but we all know there’s more to your biz than that and it’s time the world (and your dream clients) see it! How about full-blown galleries, the types of sessions you do, and even those raving reviews from your past clients that are gonna seal the deal with your future clients… sound good? Don’t worry, you can even include your perfectly curated Insta on your website too 😉
Website features that would benefit photographers:
- Photo galleries of past sessions
- Page with detailed session packages
- Downloadable Pricing Guide
- Page with testimonials from past clients
- Booking calendar for scheduling consultations
- Social media feed that automatically updates on your website every time you post your newest golden hour shots, and more!

Bakers
Alright, let’s be honest – the ultimate way to book more orders as a baker would be if one of those super nerds at Apple would finally figure out how we can have a Scratch-and-Sniff/Lick feature to our phones already. I mean seriously how is this not their top priority?! 🤔
But until those sandbaggers figure it out, we’ll have to stick to flavorless, scent-free websites. But I promise, it doesn’t have to be as dull as it sounds 😉.
As a baker, you have the privilege of being a part of some of the most exciting, important, and special days of your customers’ lives. While your delicious masterpiece is totally worthy of being the main attraction, often times it’s only one piece of the big day’s bigger picture.
By creating a website that showcases your mad decorating skills AND provides all the possible info your frazzled-party-planning-customers are looking for in the heat of the moment, you’re ensuring that they know you’re the right fit. It’s time to upgrade from your business card to a business website and let your website do more of the selling for you.
Bonus points if you can tug at their celebratory heartstrings with your copywriting, similar to how we did with the Maple Place Bakery website below.
Website features that would benefit bakers:
- Photo galleries of past creations
- Copywriting that speaks to peoples’ celebratory-hearts
- Page with testimonials from past customers
- Menu of different baked goods you create
- Booking calendar for scheduling consultations
- Social media feed that automatically updates on your website every time you post your next gorgeous drip cake, and more!

Coaches
This category is a bit more broad than the others because there are SO many different types of coaches: business coaches, life coaches, relationship coaches, personal trainers… the list goes on.
Being a coach, you ARE your business… so having a website that really speaks to your people while keeping your business manageable is the absolute key.
You want your website to do the heavy lifting for you, so you can stop taking consultation calls from clients that just don’t fit, and instead have a powerhouse list of dream clients eager to open their wallets up for you and only you!
The features below would benefit each and every one of the different types of coaches above as they look to grow their business to the next level.
Website features that would benefit coaches:
- Highly personalized copywriting, story, and photographs that allow you to connect with your audience on a deeper level and larger scale
- Free offering/training leading into a funnel
- Automated funnels for warming up leads
- Page with testimonials from past clients
- Booking calendar for scheduling consultations
- Exclusive client resource portal
- Social media feed that automatically updates on your website every time you share your heart!

This particular example is almost a hybrid of the blogger-coach websites I’ve talked about, as this client does a bit of both! So while it doesn’t entirely fit the bill as the perfect coach or blogger example, it speaks to the point that the tips above are just a guide, and all websites can (and should!) be totally customized to your exact needs.
